  • That web address does not belong to your bank.
  • It rushes you, so you act before you think.
  • It wants you to use its link instead of the app or the number you already have.

Do not tap it. Do not reply. If you already did, we tell you exactly what to do next.

Why this exists

The hard part is not spotting a scam. It is asking.

$7.7 billion

Reported lost to online crime in 2025 by people aged 60 and over, across 201,266 complaints. The average loss was $38,500, and 12,444 people lost more than $100,000 each. Source: FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center, 2025 Annual Report.

Those are only the people who came forward. Research on why the rest stay quiet keeps finding the same answer, and it is not carelessness. Admitting you nearly fell for something feels like admitting you can no longer manage on your own. So the one thing that would help, asking somebody, is the thing nobody wants to do.

Pocket Protect takes that cost away. You ask an app instead of a person. It does not judge you, nothing reaches your family unless it turns out to be dangerous, and it is awake at eleven at night when everyone else is asleep.

How it works

Three steps. Nothing to learn, nothing to remember.

  1. Send it over

Press and hold the text, email, screenshot, or link, tap Share, and choose Pocket Protect. If it was a phone call, just type what they said.

  2. Get a straight answer

One of five answers, in ordinary words, with the reasons underneath. If there is something you should not do, that comes first.

  3. Bring someone in, only if you want to

One tap sends it to the person you chose. If it comes back High Risk, they are told automatically, so you are never alone with the worst kind. Everything else stays between you and the app.

The five answers

Every check ends in one of these. Only one of them is red.

  • High Risk

Strong signs of a scam, or of someone getting into your accounts. Stop. Do not reply, tap, or pay. The person you chose is told.

  • Suspicious

Real warning signs are there. Go to the company yourself, using a number or an app you already trust, or ask your person.

  • Verification Needed

It may well be genuine, but we could not confirm who sent it. Do not use any number or link inside the message. Use the one on your card or your statement.

  • No Obvious Warning Signs

We looked for the usual tricks and did not find them. That is not the same as safe. Stay careful, especially where money or a code is involved.

  • Unable to Evaluate

There was not enough there for us to say. Ask your person, or contact the company by a route you already know.

For families

Setting this up for someone you love

You cannot answer the phone every time it rings at their house. This is the next best thing, and it is built so they never feel watched.

  • You hear about it only when it is High Risk. You do not see everything they check. They are an adult. This is not surveillance, and they can see exactly what you can see.
  • Anything else, they can send you with one tap. You see what arrived, what we found, and whether they already replied, tapped, or paid.
  • You answer in one tap too. "That is a scam, do not reply." It arrives with your name on it, not ours.
  • Up to three trusted people each. A sibling, a neighbour, a caregiver, so it never all lands on you.

Setup takes a few minutes. You send an invitation by text, they tap it, install the app, and confirm you are their person. That is the whole thing.
